This DIY felt butterfly mobile was one of the crafts I designed many years ago. It was the time before Sew a Softie<\/a> and before I started to focus my attention on just teaching hand sewing to kids. \u00a0I used to run after school craft classes and birthday parties and I found beading onto wire was a great activity for older kids as well as the little who wanted to join in with their older brothers and sisters. So I designed lots of different crafts using beads and wire…and the kids loved them. This felt butterfly mobile is perfect for those of you with spring fast approaching…actually it’s perfect for every season.<\/p>\n

If you prefer you can cut out your butterfly wings from paper or cardboard and get your kids to color the wings. It\u2019s a great idea to get kids to look at photos of \u00a0butterflies and notice the colors and patterns of their wings before they design their own butterflies.<\/p>\n

Artificial flower stamen for antennas<\/p>\n

Beads<\/p>\n

24 gauge wire<\/p>\n

Glue<\/p>\n

What you need to do<\/h2>\n

Cut out a butterfly shape, body and spots. If you want you can use this butterfly template<\/a><\/article>\n

Glue spots into place. Bend flower stamen in half and glue onto butterfly\u2019s body as shown above.<\/article>\n
\"curling<\/a>Curl one end of your wire into a spiral then bend the wire at a right angle to the spiral.\"making<\/a>Bead the wire leaving 3\u2033 tail of unbeaded wire. Make the 3\u2033 tail into a circle wrapping the end of the circle several times around the wire to secure it firmly.<\/article>\n
\"glueing<\/a>Glue the wire coil underneath the butterfly and your butterfly mobile\u2019s complete.<\/article>\n
