I’m very excited to let you know that Sew a Softie<\/a> will be happening again this July.<\/p>\n

So what exactly is Sew a Softie? \u00a0I created Sew a Softie in 2016 after years of noticing that so many parents and kids were missing out on the joys that came with hand sewing, purely because this simple skill was no longer being taught.<\/p>\n

Sew a Softie\u00a0was set up\u00a0to remedy\u00a0this situation,\u00a0by creating\u00a0a month long event where anyone could host or join the many workshops, online tutorials and sewing events around the world, teaching and learning the skill of hand sewing\u00a0through the creation of simple to sew softies.<\/p>\n

So how can you get involved in \u00a0Sew a Softie?<\/p>\n

If you already know how to sew, we would love you to share those skills.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. You can join the Sew a Softie tutorial hop, by posting a simple softie tutorial of your own.<\/li>\n
  2. You could organize a community workshop and teach a group of parents, children or both how to sew a softie<\/li>\n
  3. Teach a friend, relative or neighbor how to sew a softie.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If you’re new to sewing, you can get involved too! You can follow one of our online tutorials, ask someone you know who can sew to help you learn, or attend a community event \u2013 and of course, post a picture of your \u00a0softie on Facebook or Instagram with the tag #sewasoftie so everyone can see what you have created.<\/p>\n

    This year I\u2019m also recruiting \u2018Kid Ambassadors\u2019 who can join in by teaching a friend how to sew a softie. If your kids would \u00a0like to take part and teach a friend how to sew a softie i’d love to have them join in too.<\/p>\n

    Carolyn Wiseman Castano joined the Sew a Softie facebook group<\/a> last year and her kids sewed their first softies. I remember Carolyn writing that her daughter thanked her for joining the Sew a Softie group and that she had barely finished sewing her first softie when she started planning her second softie.<\/p>\n

    Carolyn is also the co leader of a group of Girl scouts and recently sent me photos of her troop. She wrote…<\/p>\n

    “I wanted to let you know that my troop has finished creating and sewing their softies for homeless children. This was just part of their Bronze Award project. I am extremely proud of all of them and the people that have seen their creations couldn’t believe that the girls did them by hand…The girls cooked and served our homeless neighbors, made first aid kits for them and created these stuffed animals.<\/p>\n
