If you’re looking for a sewing project this Easter then may I suggest you sew this sweet little hen with your kids…it’s easier than you think. Really!!<\/p>\n

Henya and her little chicks are a great beginner sewing project. Actually don’t just stop at one gather all your kids and your neighbours kids and sew a brood of chickens and of course some sweet little chicks<\/a> too.<\/p>\n

For my friendly little stuffed chicken all you need is two squares of gingham, some scraps of red and yellow felt, a needle, thread, a little polyester fibrefill for soft stuffing and rice to give her weight…and last but not least, you’ll need a name…I call mine Henya…which is a perfectly good name for a hen.<\/p>\n

What you need to sew your little hen:<\/b><\/h2>\n

\"Sew
\n<\/b>Two 6 \u00bd” X 6 \u00bd” squares of gingham
\nYellow and red felt
\nNeedle
\nThread
\nPins
\nCup of rice
\nPolyester fibrefill
\nTwo small wiggly eyes
\nGlue
\n
\nHow to sew your little hen:<\/b><\/p>\n

Cut out a head comb and two circles for the eyes from red felt.<\/p>\n

Cut out a beak from yellow felt.<\/p>\n

The head comb and beak templates are here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pin the head comb and beak into place as shown below. Note: the beak is folded down the middle along the dotted line as indicated in the template.

\nPlace the remaining square of gingham on top.<\/p>\n

Pin and sew around the outside of the squares 1\/4″ in from the edge leaving a 2″ turning gap.<\/div>\n

Turn right side out as shown below…<\/div>\n

\nPush a small amount of polyester fibrefill through the opening of the turning gap…just enough to fill the top 1\/4 of the hen…<\/div>\n

then add about a cup of rice…<\/div>\n

\nand sew the turning gap closed.<\/p>\n

\nHold the hen upside down and bring the two opposite corners together as shown below:<\/p>\n

Pin together making a triangular shape on the base of the hen…<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

\nand sew a line about 1 3\/4″ down from the top of the triangle as shown below:<\/p>\n

This triangle folds under the hen forming her base and gives her a nice plump henny shape.<\/div>\n

\nGlue on the red felt circle that marks the eye. Then glue a small wiggly eye on top.<\/p>\n
