In late spring it&#8217;s covered in tiny purply-mauve flowers which drop all over the ground. The flowers and the dappled light beneath the tree remind me of the way I wanted to scatter the hearts to get a &#8216;fallen leaves&#8217; or &#8216;fallen flowers&#8217; effect:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7224.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;\" src=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7224.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5406348223148121986\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>I intended to give this quilt to Yiscah for her 8th birthday in 1996:<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7260.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;\" src=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7260.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404188060462809234\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>&#8230;and I wanted it to reflect the things that she loved at that time&#8230;I took this drawing from the first page in her sketch book:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7259.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;\" src=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7259.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404187586198949298\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>Hubby was teaching her to play guitar so I lightly quilted in a guitar. I like the idea of having to look awhile at something before you can see everything that&#8217;s there:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7235.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;\" src=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7235.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404191399878177986\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>The materials are getting nicely worn through years of use:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7247.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;\" src=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7247.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404193597447100882\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>This is part of a poem by the early Australian poet, Bango Patterson. We would make the poems into songs that she could play on her guitar&#8230;this one was her favorite when she was little:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7261.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;\" src=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7261.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404188066169079426\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>This close-up shows those little details that you have to look for in order to see:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7262.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;\" src=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7262.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404192542522561666\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>I quilted pictures of her favorite characters and objects &#8211; Snoopy, Woodstock, starfish-flowers, rainbows, etc &#8211; around the border of the quilt:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7257.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;\" src=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7257.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404195643560136706\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>Flopsy was our very affectionate very intelligent very loved Angora rabbit&#8230;she, of course, has a square all of her own&#8230;and if you look you can just see the long grass she loved&#8230;and she probably would also have happily nibbled on that jacaranda flower:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7245.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;\" src=\"https:\/\/sewasoftie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/IMG_7245.jpg\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404187584882189746\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><br \/>You don&#8217;t find this out till years later but it&#8217;s just as much fun looking back and seeing all the things you put into a quilt and had forgotten were there as it is making the quilt in the first place.
